National Development and Reform Commission: Xiongan’s Resident Population Reaches Approximately 1.4 Million

On December 13, at the 2025–2026 China Economic Annual Conference hosted by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, Xiao Weiming, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated that next year efforts will be made to promote coordinated regional development and consolidate and enhance the role of high-quality development drivers in regions such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area. Active and steady progress will be made in relocating and constructing projects in Xiongan New Area, including universities, hospitals, central state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, research institutes, and public institutions currently based in Beijing. At present, Xiongan’s resident population has reached around 1.4 million, representing a significant increase compared to earlier figures, and the prototype of a new form of urbanization has begun to take shape.

Xiongan New Area is a national-level new area located in Hebei Province, China. It has been entrusted with two key functional roles: serving as a reception area for functions non-essential to Beijing’s role as the capital and as a leading zone for innovation-driven development in Hebei. Together with the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center in Tongzhou, it will form the two new wings of Beijing’s development.
