BASIC INFORMATION

Yunnan Province, referred to as "Yun" or "Dian", is one of the 23 provinces in China and is located in the southwestern region. Its capital city is Kunming.

It is situated between 21°8′ and 29°15′ north latitude and 97°31′ and 106°11′ east longitude.

It neighbors Guizhou and Guangxi in the east, connects with Sichuan in the north, and is closely adjacent to Tibet in the northwest.

Yunnan Province belongs to the low latitude inland area and the Tropic of Cancer runs through the southern part of it. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, gradually descending in steps from north to south.

As of 2022, Yunnan Province administers 16 prefecture-level administrative divisions, including 8 prefecture-level cities and 8 autonomous prefectures, with a total of 129 county-level divisions.

Yunnan Province's climate belongs to the subtropical plateau monsoon type, with a three-dimensional climate characterized by numerous types, small annual temperature difference, large daily temperature difference, distinct dry and wet seasons, and extreme vertical changes in temperature with altitude.
