Located in the southernmost part of mainland China, Guangdong Province is bordered by Fujian Province to the east, Jiangxi and Hunan Provinces to the north, Guangxi Province to the west, the South China Sea to the south, and Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions to the east and west, respectively, of the Pearl River Estuary. The Leizhou Peninsula in the southwestern part of the province is separated from Hainan Province by the Qiongzhou Strait. The whole province is located between 20°09′ and 25°31′ north latitude and 109°45′ and 117°20′ east longitude.
As of December 31, 2021, Guangdong Province is divided into 21 prefecture-level cities, 65 districts, 20 county-level cities, 34 counties, and 3 autonomous counties (a total of 122 prefecture-level administrative divisions), 1112 towns, 4 sub-district offices, 7 ethnic townships, and 486 sub-district offices (a total of 1609 township-level administrative divisions).
